Services at Sankofa Birth & Women’s Care
Sankofa Birth & Women’s Care provides safe, holistic, and personalized midwifery care to low-risk clients during conception, pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum periods. We specialize in supporting people’s autonomy surrounding their bodies in order to provide a profound and positive impact on our clients and the birth community. Our office is a warm, home-like environment and we welcome everyone with respect and care. We offer:
Prenatal Care
Prenatal visits are the cornerstone of a healthy pregnancy. They are a way to get to know your provider and ask questions. #youcansitwithus
These visits help ensure that you and the baby are healthy. Quality prenatal care can also reduce the risk of pregnancy and birth complications.

Homebirth
Imagine giving birth in the comfort of your own home, eating food from your refrigerator, wearing your favorite lounge wear, and knowing that it’s all about you. Home birth is just that. It’s a safe and gentle way to welcome new life into this world.
Postpartum &
Newborn Care
The postpartum period, sometimes called the 4th trimester, is an important period for the new family. After the birth, we are still there for you, providing encouragement and support as you transition into this new phase of life.
Placenta Remedies
The placenta is an amazing organ that continues to provide benefits long after it has done its job nourishing the baby. The placenta, or afterbirth, can be used to make several remedies that can be taken internally or applied externally. Placenta remedies assist in optimal recovery and postpartum health.
Herbal Remedies
Gracie Deola's is a family-owned, small batch manufacturer of natural wellness remedies, including handcrafted teas, salves, and bath and body products. All products are formulated and created by the midwife using wildcrafted, home-grown, and locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.
Open Access
Maternity Clinic (OAC)
The OAC provides pregnancy tests, prenatal and postpartum care to anyone who desires midwifery care, and centers families who are Medicaid recipients, under-insured, uninsured, and undocumented.
Fees for Prenatal, Birth, and Newborn Care
Homebirth is considerably less expensive than a traditional hospital birth. You pay less without sacrificing quality of care. We also offer an affordable way to birth at home through our convenient payment plan.
At Sankofa Birth & Women’s Care, we pledge to:
Nurture the client-midwife relationship - Home birth with a midwife in attendance is dramatically different from a hospital birth in many ways. You will have continuity of care throughout your labor, birth, and postpartum period by a birth team you have built a relationship with. The relationship and trust we build are paramount to ensuring not only a safe experience (reduced trauma, interventions, birth injury, and cesarean sections) but also your social, mental, and spiritual well-being. Clients do their part by being accountable for their own birth through informed and shared decision-making. We are here to make sure that you are listened to, respected, validated, and supported.
Support the local birth community and be committed to the future of midwifery - Students are an integral part of our practice. There will likely be one to two students present during your care, including the birth experience. We also encourage our clients to have a doula present at their birth. Doulas help improve birth experiences and outcomes by providing much needed emotional, physical, and spiritual support throughout labor and birth. They are valued members of the birth team.
